Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi declared the state of emergency on Tuesday, July 18 at 3 p.m. in response to severe flooding that left many streets, parks, and other recreation areas flooded or damaged.
The declaration was made after the damage from the "unprecedented" rainfall from a storm system that arrived on Tuesday was assessed by town officials.
The severe flooding will now require the town's police and public works staff to close the affected roads, rights-of-way, and other public areas to ensure the safety of residents.
The state of emergency declaration will last for thirty days unless it is rescinded before that, according to Fulgenzi.
